Unable to open the company

Cause

This error occurs in a lower release of Tally.ERP 9 when you try to open a company created or saved in a higher release.

Recommendation

If you are using both Tally.ERP 9 and TallyPrime, it is recommended to configure separate data paths for each application to avoid facing such errors.

In Tally.ERP 9

1.    Gateway of Tally > F12 (Configure) > Data Configuration.

2.    Location of data files – Specify the folder path where you can save your company data. By default, the location is set to C:\Users\Public\Tally.ERP9\Data.

In TallyPrime

1.    Alt+Y (Data) > Data Path > Company Data Path.

2.    Company Data Path – Specify the path by selecting from the drive or entering the folder path.

Ensure that the path is different from the data path you have set for Tally.ERP 9.  

If you have already migrated any company data into TallyPrime, continue to use the data only in TallyPrime. You will not be able to open the same data in Tally.ERP 9 anymore.

Next time you are migrating your company data to TallyPrime, ensure to first take a backup of the data and then migrate. You can open the backed up data in Tally.ERP 9 without any hassles.

Solution

1.    Take a backup of your data in the release in which you are able to open the data.

2.    After taking a backup of your data, rewrite the data in the lower release of Tally.ERP 9 in which you want to open the data.

To rewrite your data

1.    In the Company Info screen, press Ctrl + Alt + R and select the company. Select Yes to proceed.

2.    You will be prompted to back up your data before rewriting. Select No since you have already taken a backup in the latest release.

Now you can open the data in the lower release of Tally.ERP 9.
