Taking Data Backup

Taking a backup of your data at regular intervals and storing it at in a different location is a good practice to follow in any organisation. This will prevent loss of data due to different types of threats, like fire, computer viruses, theft, hardware failure and so on.

To take a backup of your data

1.     Go to Gateway of Tally > F3: Cmp Info > Backup to view the Backup Companies on Disk screen.

2.     Enter the Source path where the company data is stored. By default, the Tally.ERP 9 folder path is displayed here.

3.     Enter the path where the data backup has to be stored in the Destination field.

Note: The path specified can be on the same computer, on an external storage device, or on a storage device on the network.

4.     Select the required companies from the List of Companies, as shown below:

5.     Press Ctrl+A to initiate the backup.

The backup file TBK900.001 is stored in the specified folder.

Data Backup using Tally.Server 9

If your company uses Tally.Server 9 to maintain data, data backup has to be taken by selecting the server data location.

To take a backup of your data using Tally.Server 9

1.     Go to Gateway of Tally > F3: Cmp Info > Backup to view the Backup Companies on Disk screen.

2.     Click S: Server Data Loc. to view the List of Tally.Server Data Locations.

3.     Select the required Location from the List of Tally.Server 9 Data Locations, as shown below:

4.     Enter the path where the data backup has to be stored in the Destination field.

5.     Select the required companies from the List of Companies

6.     Press Ctrl+A to initiate the backup.

Note: If the administrator has enabled Security Control, you have to provide authorised Tally.NET credentials to access the List of Tally.Server Data Locations.
