Record Purchase of Items with Discount in TallyPrime
In your business, suppliers may offer discounts on the total purchase value or on individual items. TallyPrime helps you record these discounts with or without a discount ledger, and account for item-level discounts either as indirect income or as rate discounts.
Ensure that you have created the required party ledger, sales ledger, and stock items.
Record Purchases with Discount on the Total Amount
Ensure that you have created a discount ledger under Indirect Incomes.
In the purchase voucher:
- Select the stock items and discount ledger.
If you are in Accounting Invoice mode, you can select the discount ledger after entering the purchase details. - Under Rate, enter the discount percentage (%) with a minus sign (for example, -10%).
You can see the total discount Amount. Alternatively, you can directly enter the total discount Amount. - Enter the Narration, if required, and press Ctrl+A to save.
To apply discount after additional charges, such as transportation, press F12 (Configure) and set Calculate Tax on Current Subtotal to Yes.
Record Purchases with Item-wise Discount
In Company Features (F11), enable Use Discount column in invoices and in Discount format, select Percentage, Amount, or Both Percentage & Amount, as required.
- In the purchase voucher, after the Quantity and Rate, enter Discount % or Amt for the required items.
For TallyPrime 7.0 & earlier, you can enter Disc % for the required items after you have provided the Quantity and Rate.
You can see the final Amount after discount, without any change in the Rate. - Provide Narration for the voucher, if needed, and press Ctrl+A to save.
