Taxable Purchases (VAT)

You can create vouchers for the purchase of items attracting tax, with the VAT rates specified either at the stock item level or at the stock group level.

Purchases Attracting Multiple VAT Rates

  1. Gateway of Tally > Vouchers > press F9 (Purchase).
    Alternatively, press Alt+G (Go To) > Create Voucher > press F9 (Purchase).
  2. Enter Supplier Invoice No. and Date.
  3. Select the party ledger in the field Party A/c name.
  4. Select a common purchase ledger in which the option Is VAT/CST applicable is set to Applicable, and the option Set/Alter VAT Details is not enabled.
    As in other transactions, you can create the ledger on the fly by pressing Alt+C. Alternatively, press Alt+G (Go To) > Create Master > type or select Ledger > and press Enter.
  5. Select the required stock items whose VAT rates are specified either at the stock group or at the stock item level. Enter the Quantity and Rate for each stock item.
  6. Select the common VAT ledger. The ledger must be grouped under Duties & Taxes in which the options:
    • Type of duty/tax is set to VAT.
    • Percentage of Calculation (0% for common ledger) is set to 0.
  7. To view the VAT – Tax Analysis screen, press Ctrl+O (Related Reports) > select VAT – Tax Analysis.

    If you are on TallyPrime Release 1.1.3 or earlier, follow the step:
    To view the VAT – Tax Analysis screen, press Ctrl+I (More Details) > select Voucher under Details of > and type or select VAT – Tax Analysis.

  8. Press Alt+F5 (Detailed) to view in detailed mode. The VAT – Tax Analysis screen appears as shown below:
  9. Press Esc to return to the purchase invoice. The purchase invoice appears as shown below:
  10. Accept the screen. As always, you can press Ctrl+A to save.

 

Taxable Purchases – VAT Calculation Based on Quantity

  1. Gateway of Tally > Vouchers > press F9 (Purchase).
    Alternatively, press Alt+G (Go To) > Create Voucher > press F9 (Purchase).
  2. Enter Supplier Invoice No. and Date.
  3. Select the party ledger in Party A/c name option.
  4. Select a common purchase ledger in which the option Is VAT/CST applicable is set to Applicable, and the option Set/Alter VAT Details is set to No.
  5. Select the required stock item whose VAT rate per unit is specified in the stock item.
  6. Define the VAT rate per unit for the stock item as shown below:

    Note: To select the calculation type for VAT rate in the stock item, ensure that the option given below is set to Yes in the Company VAT Details screen:
    ♦ Enable VAT calculation on quantity - for Assam, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Rajasthan, and West Bengal.
    ♦ Enable VAT calculation on stock item rate - for Delhi.
  7. Enter the Quantity and Rate for each stock item.
  8. Select the common VAT ledger.
  9. To view the VAT – Tax Analysis screen, press Ctrl+O (Related Reports) > select VAT – Tax Analysis.

    If you are on TallyPrime Release 1.1.3 or earlier, follow the step:
    To view the VAT – Tax Analysis screen, press Ctrl+I (More Details) > select Voucher under Details of > and type or select VAT – Tax Analysis.

  10. Press Alt+F5 (Detailed) to view in detailed mode. The VAT – Tax Analysis screen appears as shown below:

    Note: The tax for each item is calculated based on the rate specified in the stock item master by selecting On Quantity as the Calculation Type.
  11. Press Esc to return to the purchase invoice.
  12. Set the option Provide VAT details to Yes or No, as needed. The purchase invoice appears as shown below:
  13. Accept the screen. As always, you can press Ctrl+A to save.

 

VAT Calculation Based on Quantity for Rajasthan

  1. Gateway of Tally > Vouchers > press F9 (Purchase).
    Alternatively, press Alt+G (Go To) > Create Voucher > press F9 (Purchase).
  2. Enter Supplier Invoice No. and Date.
  3. Select the party ledger in Party A/c name option.
  4. Select a common purchase ledger in which the option Is VAT/CST applicable is set to Applicable, and Set/Alter VAT Details is set to No.
  5. Select the required stock items whose VAT rates are specified either at the stock group or at the stock item level. Enter Quantity and Rate for each stock item.
  6. Select the common VAT ledger. The ledger must be grouped under Duties & Taxes in which the options:
    • Type of duty/tax is set to VAT.
    • Percentage of Calculation (0% for common ledger) is set to 0.
  7. To view the VAT – Tax Analysis screen, press Ctrl+O (Related Reports) > select VAT – Tax Analysis.

    If you are on TallyPrime Release 1.1.3 or earlier, follow the step:
    To view the VAT – Tax Analysis screen, press Ctrl+I (More Details) > select Voucher under Details of > and type or select VAT – Tax Analysis.

  8. Press Alt+F5 (Detailed) to view in detailed mode. The VAT – Tax Analysis screen appears as shown below:

    Note: The tax for each item is calculated based on rate specified in the stock item master by selecting On Quantity in the Calculation Type.
  9. Press Esc to return to purchase invoice. The purchase invoice appears as shown below:
  10. Accept the screen. As always, you can press Ctrl+A to save.

 

Taxable Purchases with Cess

Kerala VAT – Purchases with VAT and cess

  1. Gateway of Tally > Vouchers > press F9 (Purchase).
    Alternatively, press Alt+G (Go To) > Create Voucher > press F9 (Purchase).
  2. Enter Supplier Invoice No. and Date.
  3. Select the party ledger in the field Party A/c name.
  4. Select a common purchase ledger in which the option Is VAT/CST applicable is set to Applicable, and the option Set/Alter VAT Details is not enabled.
  5. Select the required stock item whose VAT rate is specified either at the stock group or stock item level. Enter the Quantity and Rate for the stock item.
  6. Select the common VAT ledger. The ledger must be grouped under Duties & Taxes in which the options:
    • Type of duty/tax is set to VAT.
    • Percentage of Calculation (0% for common ledger) is set to 0.
  7. Select the cess ledger.
  8. To view the VAT – Tax Analysis screen, press Ctrl+O (Related Reports) > select VAT – Tax Analysis.

Uttarakhand VAT – Purchases with VAT and cess

  1. Gateway of Tally > Vouchers > press F9 (Purchase).
    Alternatively, press Alt+G (Go To) > Create Voucher > press F9 (Purchase).
  2. Enter Supplier Invoice No. and Date.
  3. Select the party ledger in the field Party A/c name.
  4. Select a common purchase ledger in which the option Is VAT/CST applicable is set to Applicable, and the option Set/Alter VAT Details is not enabled.
    As in other transactions, you can create the ledger on the fly by pressing Alt+C. Alternatively, press Alt+G (Go To) > Create Master > type or select Ledger > and press Enter.
  5. Select the required stock item whose VAT rate is specified either at the stock group or stock item level. Enter the Quantity and Rate for the stock item.
  6. Select the common VAT ledger. The ledger must be grouped under Duties & Taxes in which the options:
    • Type of duty/tax is set to VAT.

    To view the Sales Tax Cess – Tax Analysis screen, press Ctrl+I (More Details) > select Voucher under Details of > and type or select Sales Tax Cess – Tax Analysis.

  11. Press Alt+F5 (Detailed) to view in detailed mode. The VAT – Tax Analysis screen appears as shown below:
  12. Press Esc to return to the purchase invoice. The purchase invoice appears as shown below:
  13. Accept the screen. As always, you can press Ctrl+A to save.

Cess in Uttarakhand VAT is not calculated on the following:

Other tax/duty ledgers and additional ledgers selected for expense/income enabled for apportionment to assessable value.

Taxable Purchases with VAT and Surcharge

Haryana VAT – Purchases with

  1. Gateway of Tally > Vouchers > press F9 (Purchase).
    Alternatively, press Alt+G (Go To) > Create Voucher > press F9 (Purchase).
  2. Enter Supplier Invoice No. and Date.
  3. Select the party ledger in the field Party A/c name.
  4. Select a common purchase ledger in which the option Is VAT/CST applicable is set to Applicable, and the option Set/Alter VAT Details is set to No.
    As in other transactions, you can create the ledger on the fly by pressing Alt+C. Alternatively, press Alt+G (Go To) > Create Master > type or select Ledger > and press Enter.
  5. Select the required stock item whose VAT rate is specified either at the stock group or stock item level. Enter the Quantity and Rate for the stock item.
  6. Select the common VAT ledger. The ledger must be grouped under Duties & Taxes in which the options:
    • Type of duty/tax is set to VAT.
    • Percentage of Calculation (0% for common ledger) is set to 0.
  7. Select the surcharge ledger.
  8. To view the VAT – Tax Analysis screen, press Ctrl+O (Related Reports) > select VAT – Tax Analysis.

  3. Select the party ledger in the field Party A/c name.
  4. Select a common purchase ledger in which the option Is VAT/CST applicable is set to Applicable, and the option Set/Alter VAT Details is set to No.
  5. Select the required stock item whose VAT rate is specified either at the stock group or at the stock item level. Enter the Quantity and Rate for the stock item.
  6. Select the common VAT ledger. The ledger must be grouped under Duties & Taxes in which the options:

  7. Select the surcharge ledger.

  2. Enter the Supplier Invoice No. and Date.
  3. Select the party ledger in the field Party A/c name.
  4. Select a common purchase ledger in which the option Is VAT/CST applicable is set to Applicable, and the option Set/Alter VAT Details is set to No.
    As in other transactions, you can create the ledger on the fly by pressing Alt+C. Alternatively, press Alt+G (Go To) > Create Master > type or select Ledger > and press Enter.

  3. Select the party ledger in the field Party A/c name.
  4. Select a common purchase ledger in which the option Is VAT/CST applicable is set to Applicable, and the option Set/Alter VAT Details is set to No.
    As in other transactions, you can create the ledger on the fly by pressing Alt+C. Alternatively, press Alt+G (Go To) > Create Master > type or select Ledger > and press Enter.
  5. Select the required stock item whose VAT rate is specified either at the stock group or stock item level. Enter the Quantity and Rate for the stock item.
  6. Select the common VAT ledger. The ledger must be grouped under Duties & Taxes in which the options:

  11. Accept the screen. As always, you can press Ctrl+A to save.

The value of this transaction gets captured in the relevant fields of state-specific VAT/CST forms and annexures.

 

Taxable Purchase with Discount

You can record taxable purchases for items with discount by creating a purchase voucher and including the relevant discount ledger and VAT ledger.

  1. Gateway of Tally > Vouchers > press F9 (Purchase).
    Alternatively, press Alt+G (Go To) > Create Voucher > press F9 (Purchase).
  2. Press F12 (Configure) > set Provide Cash/Trade Discount to Yes.
    If you do not see this option, set Show more configurations to Yes.
  3. Enter Supplier Invoice No. and Date in the purchase invoice.
  4. Select the party ledger in Party A/c name option.
  5. Enter the Party Details, as required.
  6. Select the Purchase ledger from the List of Ledger Accounts.
    As in other transactions, you can create the ledger on the fly by pressing Alt+C. Alternatively, press Alt+G (Go To) > Create Master > type or select Ledger > and press Enter.
  7. Select the Name of Item from the List of Stock Items. Enter the Quantity and Rate.
  8. Enter the percentage or amount of discount in the Discount field.
  9. Select the discount ledger, and enter the amount. In the discount ledger grouped under direct or indirect expenses, set the option,
    • Type of Ledger to Discount.
    • Is VAT/CST applicable to Not Applicable.
    • Set/Alter VAT Details to No.
    • Include in assessable value calculation for to Not Applicable.
  10. Select the VAT ledger. The purchase invoice appears as shown below:
  11. Accept the screen. As always, you can press Ctrl+A to save.
