Policy and Processes
We have introduced change in our licensing policy which will support virtual usage of TallyPrime via Tally Virtual User (TVU) pack. Virtual usage means accessing TallyPrime over RDP, Cloud, Citrix, or any other similar technologies.
No. TVU has no dependency on TSS.
Businesses that have an existing environment that allows accessing applications remotely can benefit. A few examples of Desktop Virtualisation tools are Windows RDP, Citrix, and Windows Thin Client.
- Customer gets comfort in the form of defined guidelines from TSPL to use Tally through RDP or similar technologies.
- Customer can choose the best method for TVU usage of TallyPrime, on the basis of the experience of operation in these environments.
- Customer gets support from Tally Partner and TallyCare on configuring and troubleshooting such environments.
- Multi-location organisations can operate a single license instead of needing to procure one for each branch. Depending on the situation Tally Partners can recommend the best option.
- TallyPrime can always remain open since it is installed on a server. Therefore, users can access TallyPrime round the clock.
Yes, the customer will be able to use Tally concurrently via server (configured for virtual setup) and virtual network in case of Silver license provided the RDP tool gives the same machine name in request.
Yes, the 10 users on the LAN (not using virtual technology) don’t need TVU packs, so they can work without any issue. The 10 users in the virtual environment will each use one TVU pack.
However, if one user tries to open 10 instances of Tally with their login, all 10 TVU packs will be used up. This will block the other 9 users from opening Tally with a license, and it will open in “Educational Version” for them. They will see a message saying: “Maximum Tally Virtual User (TVU) limit exceeded. Close one or more TallyPrime instances accessed using TVU and try again.”
Customer can purchase TVU packs from TSPL by placing an order from his control centre.
- Log In with your Tally Account ID on www.tallysolutions.com.
- Go to Control Centre > Account Management > License Management.
- Select your license.
- Click on the TVU count displayed.
- Click on Buy More.
However, it is strongly recommended that all such cases undergo a thorough engagement by a competent Tally Partner.
Tally Remote Access and Tally Reports on Browser are not part of the TVU pack. These features are included in TSS (Tally Software Services) and require an active TSS subscription to use.
- Users working on the computers within a LAN are not under the purview of TVU.
- Any virtual technology used within/outside LAN will fall under the purview of TVU.

No, a TallyPrime Gold license is for a company. An association is not a company.
Companies largely provide access to a TallyPrime licence via RDP. This is not a violation of the license if the users are of the same company. But if users are of different companies, it is a violation. Every company needs to purchase TallyPrime license and TVU pack on a per-user basis to continue giving such services.
No. Currently, no such discounts are applicable.
Yes. During the trial period, you can ask for as many TVU packs as required for your operations.
A Tally partner will reach out to you and explain the policy details and provide the required assistance to you before 31st July 2020. You can opt for free TVU trial for all the users. The validity of the trial is till 31st March 2021. Post 31st March 2021, for your TallyPrime Gold license you are entitled to get 10 TVU packs free for lifetime. If you buy additional TVU packs later, they will have the same expiration date as the first one, and you will be charged for the remaining months on a pro-rata basis.
For example, if you purchase a TVU pack in May 2020, it will be valid until 31 May 2021. If you purchase an additional TVU pack on 1 July 2020, its validity will also be until 31 May 2021, and you will be charged for the remaining 11 months.

TVU and Remote Access differ in how they provide data access:
- Remote Access allows multiple users to access a single data set from different locations. It is included by default with a valid TSS subscription, and you only need the Educational version of TallyPrime installed locally to use it.
- TVU (Tally Virtual User) packs are used when accessing TallyPrime through RDP or a virtual environment. Multiple users can access the same license but work on different data sets. You can use any third-party tool to run TallyPrime in this virtual setup.

TVU pack is not a service. Tally Virtual User (TVU) pack is an instance of accessing TallyPrime over a virtualised environment through tools like Windows RDP, Windows thin Client, Citrix, or similar technologies.
Data security is not limited to that of TallyPrime data. There are three separate agents responsible for data security. One agent is the owner of the business, and how he configures IT systems for the company. Second is TallyPrime and the security features built-in. And third is the virtual environment provider and the levels of security built-in.
An important point to note here is that a multiuser (MU) installation with remote connections will require good IT administration skills, including knowledge of firewalls, security protocols, data encryption, and so on, from the side of the implementation partner.
