Activate, Update, Reactivate License & Reset Password in TallyPrime

License activities in TallyPrime, such as Activate, Surrender, Reactivate, Update, and so on, remains the same across all product editions (Gold/Silver license), across geographies, and for all license types (regular, rental & trial licenses). Let’s understand how to perform the different license activities & situations when they are applied.

Got a New TallyPrime License? Activate License

Simply activate your TallyPrime silver or gold license in your system and get started. If you have a gold license, it is recommended to activate it in a system that can be available all the time as the server system.

1. Start TallyPrime in Administrator Mode

Right-click the TallyPrime icon in the installation folder, and click Run as Administrator.

2. Start License Activation

  1. In the Welcome to TallyPrime screen, select A (Activate License).
  2. Enter your License Serial Number, Activation Key, and E-mail ID/Tally.NET ID.
    This E-mail address will be set as your Account ID  for this license.
  3. Press Enter to receive the unlock key in your e-mail.

3. Unlock License

  1. In the Unlock License screen, enter the Unlock Key
  2. Press Enter to complete the process.
  3. You have successfully activated your TallyPrime license.
In case you have not received the unlock key on your registered e-mail ID
  1. Click the Unlock Key Service screen.
  2. Enter the required license details, and click the Get Unlock Key button.

If you have activated your gold license on a system, you can now configure the license for multiple users for all other users in the same LAN network.

If you need to have multiple silver or gold licenses and manage them together, you can configure your licenses for multi-site.

Save the Tally.Net ID and credentials shared via e-mail on activation of license for future license activities.

Use License from Network | Configure License

If you are using a silver license, no additional configuration is needed for the license. If you have a gold license, once you have activated the license in one system, you can use the active license from the network or configure for the license in all other user systems in that LAN network.

Ensure that you configure the existing license server details across clients, to avoid any license conflicts.

  1. In TallyPrime, press F1 (Help) > Settings > Manage License.
  2. Select , and select the license with the status shown as Active.

  1. Select Configure License Manually.
  2. Enter the Computer Name/IP and the port number where your Tally Gateway Server is hosted, and save.

The system where you activated the license will be the server system henceforth. This system needs to be available all the time for the other systems to access the license.

Reactivate License

If you need to use your license in another system in the same LAN network, you can reuse the already surrendered license and reactivate. Ensure that you have your Tally.NET credentials handy.

Do not recollect your Tally.NET ID? Write to support.tallysolutions.com with your license details and the e-mail address that you want to register as your Tally.NET ID.

  1. Open TallyPrime in the system where you want to reactivate the license.
  2. In the Welcome to TallyPrime screen, select Reactivate License.
  3. In the Reactivate License screen, enter the Tally.NET ID and password of the Administrator.
    Forgot your password? Select .
  4. Press Enter to confirm surrender license.
  5. Press Enter to reactivate the license.

If your license is already rejected on the site, you will not be able to reactive the rejected site license. You can activate the same license by assigning it a new site ID. You can click to watch our short video.

If you wish to separately surrender your license first, you can do so.

Surrender License

Surrender your existing license from TallyPrime.

From TallyPrime

  1. In TallyPrime, press F1 (Help) > Settings > License > Manage License.
  2. Press Ctrl+F7 (Surrender).
  3. In the Surrender License screen, enter the Tally.NET ID and password of the Administrator.
    Forgot your password? Select .
  4. Press Enter to surrender the license.

Update License

Update your license, when there is any change in your license status or details due to renewal, license validity, newly purchase TVUs, and so on.

You need to update your license get the latest changes displayed in TallyPrime, in the following cases:

  • TSS is renewed
  • Change in Account ID or Administrator E-mail ID
  • Change in License Edition from Silver to Gold
  • Change from Rental license to Regular license
  • Rental license is renewed before expiry date
  • Add-ons are configured under multi-site license
  • Additional TVU purchases
  •

To update the license

  1. In TallyPrime, press F1 (Help) > Settings > License > Manage License.
  2. Press Ctrl+F5 (Update).
  3. In the Update License screen, enter the Tally.NET ID and password of the Administrator.
    Forgot your password? Select .
  4. Press Enter to update the license.

Reset Password

In case you have forgotten your Tally.NET password, you can reset the same from TallyPrime or the customer portal, as follows.

From TallyPrime

  1. In TallyPrime, F1 (Help) > Settings License Manage License.
  2. Press Alt+R (Reset Password) > enter the Administrator E-mail ID.
    You will receive an e-mail with the reset password link.
  3. Follow the instructions in the e-mail to reset the password.

From Customer Portal

  1. Open tallysolutions.com.
  2. Click Login > Forgot ID/Password.
  3. Click Reset Password, and enter the Administrator E-mail ID and Captcha.
    You will receive an e-mail with the reset password link.
  4. Follow the instructions in the e-mail to reset the password.

Use License for Multi-Site

Link multiple licenses to a common account ID, using unique site IDs managed by one or more administrators as your business needs.

Prerequisites

  1. Your license is already activated in a computer.
  2. You have a valid account ID – the administrator e-mail ID

Step 1. Start TallyPrime in Administrator Mode

Right-click the TallyPrime icon in the installation folder, and click Run as Administrator.

Step 2. Initiate License Activation (for Multi-Site)

  1. In the Welcome to TallyPrime screen, select Alt+S (Multi-Site).
  2. Fill in the Activate Site License screen.
    1. License Serial Number and Activation Key: Received in your e-mail when you purchased the license.
    2. Account ID: The e-mail that you registered during license activation.
    3. Site ID: Enter a unique name to identify the license.
    4. E-mail ID/Tally.NET ID: By default, it is the same as the Account ID, and will be considered as the Site ID for this license.
  3. Press Enter to open the License screen.
    1. Use Different E-mail ID: Useful when you want to have a different administrator ID for a different license.
    2. Reactivate Existing Site: If you already had a site that is not active.
    3. Create a Site: Proceed with creating a site for the given License Serial Number.
  4. Press Enter to receive the Unlock Key in your e-mail.

Step 3. Unlock License

  1. In the Unlock License screen, enter the Unlock Key
  2. Press Enter to complete the process.

You have successfully activated your TallyPrime license for multi-site.
