This page lists the frequently asked questions (FAQ) related to digital signatures in TallyPrime.
TallyPrime Release 2.1 currently supports dongle-based digital signatures that are issued by trusted third-party certifying authorities (such as e-Mudhra, Capricorn). To be able to use the digital signature capability in TallyPrime, the dongle must be connected to your computer.
All existing dongles for digital signature certificates will work in TallyPrime Release 2.1 as long as MS Windows is able to read information from the dongle.
You can also check the certificates in windows:
- On the Windows taskbar, open Search > type Internet Options > press Enter.
- Click the Content tab > Certificates.
All your existing digital signature certificates along with other digital certificates will be listed.
Currently, there are no location-based restrictions for using dongle-based digital signatures. However, ensure if the country of your business have authorised use of digital signatures dongle from other countries.
Yes, TallyPrime Release 2.1 supports inclusion of images in digital signature. Refer to the Configure Digital Signature section in the Digital Signature in TallyPrime for PDF Documents topic for more information.
You will certainly need a valid TSS to upgrade to TallyPrime Release 2.1. Once you have upgraded, you can continue to use the digital signature certificates feature even if your TSS expires.
Currently, TallyPrime 2.1 supports BMP, JPG, and JPEG image file formats. The maximum size of the image file can be 1 MB.
Note: You can use image of any dimension. TallyPrime automatically adjusts the dimension of the image as appropriate for digital signature.
Yes, you can disable the name of signatory from the digital signature.
While configuring for digital signature, set Include name of Signatory to No.
The digital signature will be added without the signatory name. For more information on configurations related to digital signature, refer to the Digital Signature in TallyPrime for PDF Documents topic.
Yes, you can do so in TallyPrime Release 2.1. However, you will be prompted with a warning message stating that the digital signature certificate you have selected has expired. You can contact the service provider to renew the validity of the certificate.
The digital signature certificates feature is supported in Release 2.1 of TallyPrime and TallyPrime Edit Log, and can be used regardless of your geographic location.
TallyPrime Release 2.1 supports using the digital signature feature even in Educational Mode. However, it cannot fetch the Expiry Date and Time of the digital signature certificates from the connected dongles.
Yes, you can add digital signatures on customised documents as you would do for your regular invoices and reports. Additionally, you can customise:
- Position of the digital signatures
- Configuration for digital signatures, including the listing of certificates

A third-party driver gets installed automatically. This enables you to see a list of digital signature certificates while configuring invoices and reports for printing, exporting or e-mailing.
TallyPrime does not store the User PIN as it may compromise the security of your digital signature certificates. You will need to enter the User PIN every time you connect the dongle to the computer.
TallyPrime does not have any security settings or restrictions for using Print, Export or E-mail features. Therefore, regardless of your security level you can use these features to add digital signatures to your invoices and reports. However, you will need to enter a valid User PIN to access the digital signature certificates in the dongle that you need to connect to your computer.
No. TallyPrime Release 2.1 does not support digital signature for cheques.
Currently, there is no configuration in TallyPrime to e-mail vouchers as they are saved.
No. The dongle-based digital signature feature in TallyPrime Release 2.1 is especially applicable while printing, exporting or e-mailing documents. Moreover, reports on browser is a read-only mechanism of viewing documents available from the company in TallyPrime.

- Press Alt+P (Print) > Others > One Ledger Account.
- Select a party for which you want to print the ledger account.
- Configure digital signature.
If you need to export or e-mail the ledger account to your party, you can follow the same steps from the Export and E-mail menus in TallyPrime Release 2.1.
No. Currently there is no option to automate saving files with different names each time you save them through Print, Export or E-mail. TallyPrime by default prompts you to confirm if you want to overwrite the document, if a document with the same name already exists. The same applies to the digitally signed documents as well.
The digital signature feature in TallyPrime Release 2.1 is supported on Windows 10 or later. Therefore, you will need to upgrade the operating system of your computer to Windows 10 or later to be able to use the digital signature feature.
In TallyPrime Release 2.1, adding digital signatures to your documents in Arabic language through Export or E-mail displays a question mark on the PDF. To avoid this issue, you can print your documents using MS Print to PDF with the required digital signature and share the document separately, as per your business needs.
To add digital signature on all your invoice in one go, you will need to use Multi Account Reports to print, export, or e-mail invoices and reports in TallyPrime.

No. This flexibility is currently not supported for invoices spanning multiple pages.
If your invoice has multiple pages, the digital signature will get added to the last page that includes the authorised signatory.
Similarly, in case of a report, the digital signature gets added at the end of the report data.
Yes. You can connect all the dongles to your computer. As long as the digital signatures certificates can be recognised by TallyPrime Release 2.1, you will be able to view all the certificates and use them in your invoices and reports.
You can apply the following customisations on digital signatures:
- Position of the digital signatures
- Configuration for digital signatures, including the listing of certificates
However, the following attributes cannot be customised:
- Size (width and height) of the digital signature section
- Font size of the digital signature
No, you need to connect the digital signature dongle to your local computer to be able to use the digital signature feature.
The digital signature certificate should display non-repudiation under the key usage tag of the certificate properties.
Under Internet Options, click the Content tab > Certificates > View.
TallyPrime Release 2.1 supports the following attributes or details of digital signature:
- Name of Signatory
- Data and time when the document was digitally signed
- Image along with name of signatory
- Authorised Signatory label
Currently, TallyPrime supports adding digital signatures only to the PDF format of the invoices and reports
No. Digital signature certificate dongles have their own User PIN provided by the trusted third-party certifying authorities.
You can digitally sign the document on cloud platforms as long as the virtual computers are Windows based and can be accessed through RDP.
TallyPrime Release 2.1 on AWS is supported on a Linux environment. Therefore, the application may not be able to identify the digital signature certificates from the dongle.
- Windows > Start > type RDP > press Enter.
- Click Show Options, select the Local Resources tab , and clock More.
- Enable the following:
- Smart cards
- Drives
- Other supported Plug and Play (PnP) devices
- Click OK to connect to the remote computer.
- In your computer, under This PC > Redirected drives and folders, select the USB drive..
- Install the token software in the remote machine (if not already installed).
Such scenarios are not supported by dongles providers and so digital signature may not work as expected in these cases.
In your computer, you can view the list of all digital signatures along with their expiry date.
- Windows > Search > Internet Options.
- Select the Content tab, and click Certificates.
By viewing the Expiration Date, you can identify if the digital signature certificate has expired.
You can view the certificates from TallyPrime application and from Window.
From TallyPrime:
- From any invoice or report, press Alt+E (Export) > Current > Configure.
- Under Export Settings, select PDF as the File Format.
The Digital Signature field displays the list of certificates available.
From Windows:
- On the Windows taskbar, open Search > type Internet Options > press Enter.
- Click the Content tab > Certificates.
Yes. Configurations for digital signature are set at the application level and therefore are retained for all companies that you load in that application.
No, you are not required to enter the User PIN every time you are signing in for digital signature. Once the User PIN is entered, it is retained until you remove the digital signature dongle or restart TallyPrime Release 2.1.
This configuration allows you to confirm if you should add digital signature to invoices and reports while printing, exporting or e-mailing.
- Setting this option to Yes prompts you to confirm if you want to sign the invoice or report with the digital signature.
- Setting this option to No will add digital signature to the invoices or reports without any prompt, every time you print, export or e-mail.
Your pdf document needs to be verified by the PDF Reader installed on your computer so that the digital signature appears correctly. This is a one-time activity and the process depends on the type of PDF Reader installed on your computer. - Click the digital signature section on your invoice or report to view the digital signature certificate details.
- Additionally, refer to the Signature section of the PDF reader to view all the information about the digital signature.
You can verify your digital signatures on your documents using PDF Readers, such as Adobe, Foxit Reader, CutePDF, and so on. However, Nitro Pro is not supported for viewing the digitally signed documents generated in TallyPrime.
Digital signature certificates that are revoked appear as expired under Printer Settings > Digital Signature > List of Digital Signature Certificates.
