Inventory Management Using Batches in TallyPrime
Batches in TallyPrime enable you to manage your stock items better, as they group stock items based on aspects such as their manufacturing, expiry, and cost. Batches in TallyPrime help especially when:
- Goods are perishable: You want to prioritise the sale of stock that is closer to its expiry date.
This helps you track the manufacturing and expiry dates of batches and decide which batch to sell first. - The cost of goods keeps changing: When the same stock item is purchased from different suppliers, they might have different costs.
You can maintain batches for stock items with different costs.
Moreover, when a customer returns a stock item, you can identify its batch and check whether other items from the same batch may also be defective or expired.
Transactions with Batches for Stock Items
Once you enable batches for the Company and set up stock items with the details of batches, you can start:
- Selling a stock item from a specific batch.
While recording sales transactions, selecting the correct batch:- Reduces the stock quantity in the selected batch and updates its stock balance.
- Helps in inventory analysis based on the manufacturing and expiry dates.
- Purchasing a stock item and assigning it to a specific batch.
While recording purchase transactions, selecting the correct batch helps you:- Track purchases for each batch of stock items.
- Manage expiry dates for perishable goods.
- Maintain quality control and traceability.
- Analyse stock based on different purchase rates.
Batch Reports for Stock Items
Batch Summary
You can view a Batch Summary for a particular stock item within a given period. When you record transactions for stock items maintained in batches, TallyPrime displays batch-wise stock details for the selected period, such as a week, month, or quarter. You can also view vouchers that record transactions of stock items allocated to different batches.
Batch Vouchers
Batch Vouchers provides a list of all the vouchers recorded for stock items belonging to a specific batch within a given period. The report includes both inward and outward transactions along with quantity, rate, and closing value details for the selected batch.
Stock Ageing Analysis
The Stock Ageing Analysis report helps you analyse stock items based on the number of days remaining until their expiry. This helps you identify stock that is nearing expiry so you can prioritise its sale and reduce potential losses from expired goods.
Disabling Batches
If you no longer need to maintain batches for a specific stock item, you can disable batches for that item.
Batches may already be enabled for some stock items in your Company Data, even if your business does not use them or you work with shared Company Data. In such cases, you can disable batches for the stock items for which batch-wise tracking is no longer required.
You can disable batches:
- For all the stock items at the Company level.
Once you disable batches at the Company level, you cannot enable batches for individual stock items. - For a specific stock item at the stock item master level.
Once you disable batches at the stock item level, batches get disabled only for that stock item, while they remain enabled for other stock items.
