The system maintains an index file to quickly locate the information you search for. In common situations, such as a missing, incorrect, or corrupted index file, the system automatically detects the issue and rebuilds the index during the next search.
However, in some rare or unexpected cases, the system may not be able to handle the issue on its own, resulting in missing results even though the data exists. In such situations, after you initiate a Find operation and the results page loads, a note will appear at the bottom of the page with steps for manual indexing.
Press F1 (Help) > Troubleshoot > Repair Index,
Alternatively, Data > Repair Index and then run the Find operation again.
When you look for a keyword that has a special character in it, and by default Find looks for it using All Words Are Present, then you can type the keyword within single quotes.
For example, if the keywords are A.B.C Traders, Shirts Ladies/Men or KA-51-3456, then you have to write ‘A.B.C Traders’, ‘Shirts Ladies/Men’ or ‘KA-51-3456’.
And if you are using Any Word Is Present, then you can type any of the keywords.
For example, if the keywords are Lifestyle – Shirts – Men, then you can type either Lifestyle or Shirts or Men and initiate Find.
The Find Results gives you quick access to relevant information, helping you make immediate decisions, rather than functioning as a detailed business report used for analysis, planning, or forecasting.
Currently, Add, Insert, and Duplicate actions are not supported in the Find Results screen. Since it does not show the exact position of vouchers, it would be unclear where a newly added or inserted voucher should appear.

Currently, displaying Amount, Quantity, or Rate in Find Results is not supported.
You can change the number of results displayed by using F12 (Configure). However, this does not load the next 100 results. Instead, it increases the total number of results shown on the page, adding to the existing count.
TallyPrime does not currently support searching for transactions using aliases or part numbers in Find. A keyword appears in the Find results only if it exists in the transactions, the masters, or both.
When you record a transaction and select a master through its alias or part number, the voucher is saved using the original master name. Therefore, when you drill down into the voucher, it displays the original name, not the alias or part number. As a result, Find will display results for masters, but not for transactions.
Find will always display results based on the keyword you have entered in the Find Bar. No modifications are made by Find to avoid any misinterpretation.
If the stock item is named “Note Book” (with a space), but you look for “Notebook” (without a space), the system treats “Notebook” as a single word and looks for an exact match. It will not interpret or separate it into “Note” and “Book.” To get exact results, enter the keyword exactly as it appears, “Note Book” with the space.
Separating words could also have different interpretations, like
Newspaperstand could be interpreted as News paper stand or Newspaper stand
Currently, writing query in plain sentences or giving a voice command is not supported in Find. You can type the user-entered information in the Find Bar and look for the details in the master and transaction.
Currently, Find does not support looking for keywords from configurations.
Currently, Find does not support looking for fields used in Add-Ons.
Find displays results from the books beginning date to ensure you see the complete set of matching transactions. This approach helps in the following ways:
Shows the full history by default:
If the period was limited to only the current financial year, you might miss older but relevant transactions unless you change the period.
Avoids confusion when multiple companies are loaded:
Each company may have a different financial year. If results were restricted to the current financial year, it could appear as if there are no results from other companies, even though matching transactions exist.
Defaulting to the Books Beginning period avoids mismatches and gives a complete view, while still allowing you to switch to the current or any other financial year anytime using F2 (Period).
If you enter certain details in a master and look for those details to find transactions, you won’t see any related results unless the same information is also recorded within the transaction.
If you have added a mobile number in a party ledger and then look for that number in the Find Bar, no transactions will appear unless that mobile number is actually entered in those specific transactions, but you can see results for master.
Yes, you can look for keywords in other languages if your masters or transactions are created in that language. However, if you are searching the keyword along with the field name, then please ensure that the field name is always entered in English.
The invoice amount acts as an alias for the ledger amount. In a sales or purchase invoice, the total value is recorded against the party’s account. So, when you try to locate invoiceamount: XXXX, the system actually checks the party’s ledger amount and displays the matching results.
When you open a TallyVault-enabled company in the Gold release after working in the Beta version, Indexing is triggered, and the system will automatically Reindex for Find.
Indexing happens automatically in the following cases:
- During company data migration, when moving from any release prior to Release 7.0 to Release 7.0
- When Company Data is split
- When Company Data is repaired
In addition, in rare or exceptional situations where the index needs to be repaired manually for Find feature, users can use the option F1 (Help) > Troubleshooting > Repair Index for Find.

You need to enter the full voucher number to get accurate results. If you provide partial keywords for voucher numbers, you will get too many matches, making it harder for you to find the specific voucher you are looking for.
For example:
-
If the voucher number is INV/123/24-25, you must enter the full keyword.
-
If the voucher number contains a space, such as INV 123, you need to enclose it in quotes, ‘INV 123’ or “INV 123” to get the correct result.
