Invoice already exist with different CTIN please delete the existing invoice and upload again.

Cause

This error occurs when you upload a GSTR-1 invoice that already exists on the GST portal, either with the same or a different Counterparty Taxpayer Identification Number (CTIN/GSTIN).

Resolution

The resolution depends on whether the invoice is an e-Invoice.

If e-Invoice is not applicable

  1. Verify whether the invoice already exists on the GST portal.
  2. Compare the invoice details in TallyPrime with the invoice available on the portal.
  3. Based on the comparison:
    • If no changes are required, update the voucher status in TallyPrime as Uploaded so that the invoice is not uploaded again.
    • If the details in TallyPrime are correct but differ from the portal, delete the existing invoice from the GST portal and upload the invoice again from TallyPrime.

If e-Invoice is applicable

The resolution depends on when the e-Invoice was generated.

Scenario 1: Within 24 hours of IRN generation

  • If the invoice exists only on the IRP and has not yet been reflected on the GST portal, and the invoice details are correct except for the party information (GSTIN/CTIN), cancel the e-Invoice on the IRP.
  • If the invoice has already been posted to the GST portal, delete the invoice from the GST portal and upload it again with the correct GSTIN. Since the IRN has already been generated, upload the invoice without generating a new e-Invoice.

Scenario 2: After 24 hours of IRN generation

Cancellation of the e-Invoice is not allowed. In this case:

  1. Retain the invoice as available on the portal.
  2. Raise a credit note to nullify the incorrect transaction.
  3. Record a new sales invoice with the correct buyer GSTIN.
  4. Upload the new invoice to the GST portal.
