Taxable Sales in TallyPrime (VAT)
You can record taxable sales in TallyPrime by creating a voucher for sales of items attracting tax, with the VAT rates specified either at the stock item level or at the stock group level.
Sales with multiple VAT rates
- Gateway of Tally > Vouchers > press F8 (Sales).
Alternatively, press Alt+G (Go To) > Create Voucher > press F8 (Sales). - Select the party ledger in the field Party A/c name.
- Select a common sales ledger in which the option Is VAT/CST applicable is set to Applicable, and the option Set/Alter VAT Details is not enabled.
As in other transactions, you can create the ledger on the fly by pressing Alt+C. Alternatively, press Alt+G (Go To) > Create Master > type or select Ledger > and press Enter. - Select the required stock items whose VAT rates are specified either at the stock group level, or at the stock item level.
- Enter Quantity and Rate for each stock item.
- Select the common VAT ledger. The ledger must be grouped under Duties & Taxes in which the options:
- Type of duty/tax is set to VAT.
- Percentage of Calculation (0% for common ledger) is set to 0.
- To view the VAT – Tax Analysis screen, press Ctrl+O (Related Reports) > type or select VAT – Tax Analysis.
If you are on TallyPrime Release 1.1.3 or earlier, follow the step:
To view the VAT – Tax Analysis screen, press Ctrl+I (More Details) > select Voucher under Details of > and type or select VAT – Tax Analysis. - Press Alt+F5 (Detailed) to view in detailed mode. The VAT – Tax Analysis screen appears as shown below:
- Press Esc to return to sales invoice. The sales invoice appears as shown below:
- Accept the screen. As always, you can press Ctrl+A to save.
The option Provide VAT details appears based on the VAT feature provided for each state. For the company enabled with VAT for Dadra and Nagar Haveli, the option Is Sales Non Creditable appears in the Statutory Details screen (displayed on enabling the option Provide VAT details), which can be set to Yes/No based on the transaction.
All transactions recorded between party’s in new union territory Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu will be considered as local.
Taxable Sales – VAT Calculation Based on Quantity
Jharkhand VAT – Sales of stock items predefined with VAT amount per unit
- Gateway of Tally > Vouchers > press F8 (Sales).
Alternatively, press Alt+G (Go To) > Create Voucher > press F8 (Sales). - Select the party ledger in the field Party A/c name.
- Select a common sales ledger in which the option Is VAT/CST applicable is set to Applicable, and the option Set/Alter VAT Details is set to No.
As in other transactions, you can create the ledger on the fly by pressing Alt+C. Alternatively, press Alt+G (Go To) > Create Master > type or select Ledger > and press Enter. - Select the required stock item whose VAT rate per unit is specified in the stock item.
- Define the VAT rate per unit for the stock item as shown below:
Note: To select the calculation type in stock item, ensure the option Enable VAT calculation on quantity is set to Yes in the Company VAT Details screen.
- Enter the Quantity and Rate for the stock item.
- Select the common VAT ledger.
- To view the VAT – Tax Analysis screen, press Ctrl+O (Related Reports) > type or select VAT – Tax Analysis.
If you are on TallyPrime Release 1.1.3 or earlier, follow the step:
To view the VAT – Tax Analysis screen, press Ctrl+I (More Details) > select Voucher under Details of > and type or select VAT – Tax Analysis. - Press Alt+F5 (Detailed) to view in detailed mode. The VAT – Tax Analysis screen appears as shown below:
Note: The tax for each item is calculated based on the rate specified in the stock item master by selecting On Quantity in the Calculation Type.
- Press Esc to return to sales invoice.
- Set the option Provide VAT details to Yes and enter the details in the Statutory Details screen. The sales invoice appears as shown below:
- Accept the screen. As always, you can press Ctrl+A to save.
Rajasthan VAT – Sales with multiple VAT rates
- Gateway of Tally > Vouchers > press F8 (Sales).
Alternatively, press Alt+G (Go To) > Create Voucher > press F8 (Sales). - Select the party ledger in Party A/c name field.
- Select a common sales ledger in which the option Is VAT/CST applicable is set to Applicable, and Set/Alter VAT Details is disabled.
As in other transactions, you can create the ledger on the fly by pressing Alt+C. Alternatively, press Alt+G (Go To) > Create Master > type or select Ledger > and press Enter. - Select the required stock items whose VAT rates are specified either at the stock group level, or at the stock item level. Enter Quantity and Rate for each stock item.
- Select the common VAT ledger. The ledger must be grouped under Duties & Taxes in which the options:
- Type of duty/tax is set to VAT.
- Percentage of Calculation (0% for common ledger) is set to 0.
- Set the option Provide VAT details to Yes to view the Statutory Details screen. In the Statutory Details screen,
- To view the VAT – Tax Analysis screen, press Ctrl+O (Related Reports) > type or select VAT – Tax Analysis.

Taxable Sales with Cess for Uttarakhand VAT

- Select a common sales ledger in which the option Is VAT/CST applicable is set to Applicable, and the option Set/Alter VAT Details is not enabled.
- Select the required stock item whose VAT rate is specified either at the stock group or stock item level.
- Enter the Quantity and Rate for the stock item.
- Select the common VAT ledger. The ledger must be grouped under Duties & Taxes in which the options:
- Type of duty/tax is set to VAT.
- Percentage of Calculation (0% for common ledger) is set to 0.
- Select the cess ledger.
- To view the VAT – Tax Analysis screen, press Ctrl+O (Related Reports) > type or select VAT – Tax Analysis.

- Press Esc to return to sales invoice. The sales invoice appears as shown below:
- Accept the screen. As always, you can press Ctrl+A to save.
Cess is not calculated in the following scenarios:
Other tax/duty ledgers and additional ledgers selected for expense/income enabled for apportionment to the assessable value are not considered for cess calculation.
Invoice configured with voucher class to display the stock item value inclusive of tax does not consider cess value.
MRP of stock items is not considered for cess calculation.
Sales with Surcharge
Haryana VAT – Sales with multiple VAT rates
- Gateway of Tally > Vouchers > press F8 (Sales).
Alternatively, press Alt+G (Go To) > Create Voucher > press F8 (Sales). - Select the party ledger in field Party A/c name.
- Select a common sales ledger in which the option Is VAT/CST applicable is set to Applicable, and Set/Alter VAT Details is disabled.
As in other transactions, you can create the ledger on the fly by pressing Alt+C. Alternatively, press Alt+G (Go To) > Create Master > type or select Ledger > and press Enter. - Select the required stock items whose VAT rates are specified either at the stock group or stock item level. Enter Quantity and Rate for each stock item.
- Select the common VAT ledger. Ledger must be grouped under Duties & Taxes in which the options:
- Type of Duty/Tax is set to VAT.
- Percentage of Calculation (0% for common ledger) is set to 0.
- Select the surcharge ledger.
- To view the VAT – Tax Analysis screen, press Ctrl+O (Related Reports) > type or select VAT – Tax Analysis.

- Select a common sales ledger in which the option Is VAT/CST applicable is set to Applicable, and Set/Alter VAT Details is set to No.

Select Retail as the Type of invoice in Statutory Details screen of the invoice, for sales made to unregistered dealers.
