Create Employee Groups in TallyPrime
Employee Groups help you classify employees by role, department, or function and apply a common salary structure to teams like Sales, Marketing, or R&D. You can create them individually or in bulk, depending on your needs.
Before you begin | Prerequisites
- Create the required groups if you want to organise employee groups under a specific parent group.
- Create earning pay heads, deduction pay heads, and Variable pay and bonus pay head to define the salary structure for an employee group.
Create Single Employee Group
You can create a single employee group master when establishing a new role or department, introducing a specific function, or aligning employees under one group for reporting or payroll purposes.
- Press Alt+G (Go To) > Create Master > Employee Group and press Enter.

- Enter the employee group details.
- Name: Enter the name of the employee group based on department, role, or function.
- Under: By default, the employee group is created under Primary.
If you want to place an employee group under another group, you can create it on the fly. For example, you can create Accounts, Taxation, and Audit under Finance & Compliance. - Define salary details: Enable this option to enter the salary details of an employee group.
- Press Ctrl+A to save the master.
Create Multiple Employee Groups
Multiple employee groups are created to manage departments, branches, or locations, apply payroll structures, allocate costs, generate reports, and process payroll for multiple employees efficiently.
- Press Alt+G (Go To) > type or select Chart of Accounts > Employee Groups and press Enter.

- Press Alt+H (Multi Masters) > select Multi Create and press Enter.
- Enter the employee group details.

- Under Employee Group: Select All Items if you are creating multiple employee groups under different groups.
If you want to place all the employee groups under one group, you can create it on the fly. - Name of Employee Group: Enter the name of the employee group based on department, role, or function.
- Under: If you have selected All Items in Under Employee Group, then you can select Primary, create a new group, or select an existing group.
- Under Employee Group: Select All Items if you are creating multiple employee groups under different groups.
- Press Ctrl+A to save the master.
Employee salary details can be added at any time by altering the employee group. Once the group is created, you can start creating employees under that group.
