Migrate Company Data

Migrating your company data to the latest release of TallyPrime ensures a seamless experience and access to the latest features, including improved data entry and reporting. All your data, including vouchers, masters, and security settings, is retained and made compatible with the release you migrate to.

Points to know

  • Migrating from TallyPrime Release 2.1 and earlier or from Tally.ERP 9 Release 5.0 and later to the latest TallyPrime Release:

    • You can continue working on the previous version of TallyPrime while migration is in process to the latest release.

    • You can pause the migration process in between and continue to migrate from the same point any time later.

  • Migrating data from Release 2.1 or earlier to Release 3.0 or later: The data is migrated from the existing 5-digit company to a new company with a 6-digit number. The original 5-digit company is retained for use in the previous release.

  • Migrating to Release 6.0: A pre-migration check highlights the exceptions so you can repair your Company data before proceeding. In case of data corruption, you will be prompted to repair the data in the older version before proceeding.

Note: If you are on Tally 5.4, 6.3, and 7.2, refer to Migrate Company Data from Tally 5.4, 6.3 and 7.2 to TallyPrime.

Prerequisites for a Smooth Migration

  • TSS Validity: Verify that your Tally Software Services (TSS) subscription is active. A valid TSS is required to migrate to the latest release.

  • System Readiness: Ensure that your system has at least 4 GB (higher RAM and SSD storage are recommended for optimal performance).

  • Data Readiness: Confirm that your company data is accurate, complete, and reliable to avoid issues during migration.

  • GST Details Verification: Review and validate the company’s GST information, such as the GSTIN/UIN, State, and Registration Type. To know more, refer to Best Practices & Enhancements in GST for a Smooth Migration

  • Company Data Management: For companies with large volumes of transactions, split the data and migrate only the current financial year to maintain performance and ensure smooth operations.

  • Migration Timing: Schedule the migration during non-business hours to prevent disruption. Migration processes may temporarily affect the performance of other applications.

  • TDL Compatibility: If you use TDL customizations, consult your Tally Partner to confirm compatibility with the latest TallyPrime release.

  • Transaction Backup: Continue recording transactions in the backed-up data. You can later export these transactions to an XML file and import them into the migrated release.

  • Voucher numbering: Configure voucher numbering from the Voucher Type Alteration screen for specific voucher types based on your business practices.

  • HSN/SAC Summary: During migration to TallyPrime, you can configure how HSN/SAC summaries are created for your transactions.

    • Migration to Release 5.0: In the Migrate Configuration screen, select Create HSN/SAC summary for and press Enter.

      1. All Sections: to create HSN/SAC summary for all the transactions.

      2. All Sections Except B2C: to create HSN/SAC summary for all transactions other than B2C.

      3. None: to disable creating HSN/SAC summary for any transactions.

    • Migration to Release 5.1: Configure HSN/SAC summary creation directly from the Migration screen.

Irrespective of the TallyPrime version you are in, you can migrate your data to the latest version of TallyPrime seamlessly. After you complete the migration process, TallyPrime displays a Migration Summary to take you through the statistics of your company’s vouchers and masters post migration. Refer to Post-Migration Activities to know more about what to do after migrating your data.
