Verify Your TallyPrime Version | SHA-256 Validation
The SHA-256 checksum process ensures that your TallyPrime setup files are secure, and they haven’t been altered or damaged during download. Before installing TallyPrime, it is recommended that you verify the hash value or checksum value of the setup file. If this value exactly matches the SHA-256 checksum value, the setup file is authentic and unmodified.
However, if there is any difference in the values, it is recommended that you do not install the file, as it may have been altered or corrupted.
If there is a mismatch in the checksum value for your existing TallyPrime version, you can reach out to our support team at support@tallysolutions.com.
Know about SHA-256 checksumSecure Hash Algorithm 256-bit (SHA-256) acts like a digital fingerprint for a file. Depending on your operating system (Windows Operating System, macOs, or Linux), you can verify the SHA-256 checksum of the downloaded file.
Now, what does it do?
- It is a 64-character code for a file, based on its contents.
- If anything in the file changes, even just one tiny part, the SHA-256 checksum also changes. This helps you identify if the file has been tampered with or corrupted.
To generate SHA-256 checksum in Windows Operating System:
- Press Window+R to open the Run dialogue box.
- Type cmd and press Enter to open Command Prompt.
- Type cd <file path> and press Enter to get the location of your TallyPrime file.
In the next line, you can see the path where your TallyPrime setup file is located. - Type certutil -hashfile <filename.exe> SHA256 and press Enter.
The system will generate a hash value or checksum value for the file.
- Compare and verify the generated checksum value with the SHA-256 checksum value, as shown in the following table.
Currently, TallyPrime is supported only in MS Windows. However, if you’ve installed TallyPrime on other operating systems using applications like Winebottler, you can use online tools for generating and verifying the checksum value.

If the generated hash or checksum value matches the SHA-256 value in the above table, the setup file is genuine. If the values differ, do not install the file, as it may be altered or corrupted.
