Import Data from Excel – Errors and Resolutions

This page includes the different error scenarios you might encounter while importing data from Excel into TallyPrime Release 4.0. You can refer to this table for the description of each error and the corresponding simple-to-follow resolutions.

Oops!

The value in the ‘to’ field should be whole number and greater than or equal to the value in the ‘from’ field. 

Error message in case Import from Row starting value is greater than value after to. 
  1. Press Alt+O (Import) > Manage > Mapping Templates > Masters or Transactions > Alter, and select the template to alter.
  2. In the Import data from row and to fields:
    1. Ensure to enter whole numbers
    2. Ensure that the value in the to field is greater than or equal to the value in Import data from row field.

The value in the ‘to’ field should be greater than or equal to the value in the ‘from’ field. 

Error message in case Import from Columns starting value is greater than value after to. 
  1. Press Alt+O (Import) > Manage > Mapping Templates > Masters or Transactions > Alter, and select the template to alter.
  2. Ensure that the value in the to field is greater than or equal to the value in Import data from row field.

‘Row no. for column headers’ should be lesser than the number specified in ‘Import Data from row’.

Error message in case User comes back to row no for column headers and specifies value greater than import data from row. 
  1. Press Alt+O (Import) > Manage > Mapping Templates > Masters or Transactions > Alter, and select the template to alter.
  2. Ensure that the value in the Row no. for column headers field is lesser than the value in the Import data from row field.

The number specified in ‘Import Data from row’ should be greater than ‘Row no. for column headers’.

Error message in case the value for Import data from row is given as lesser than the Row no for column headers. 
  1. Press Alt+O (Import) > Manage > Mapping Templates > Masters or Transactions > Alter, and select the template to alter.
  2. Ensure that the value in the Import data from row field  is greater than the value in the Row no. for column headers field.

Unable to read the <filename> file.

Select a valid Excel file and try again.

Error message if Excel File cannot be read.  Select a valid Excel file and try again.

Unable to open the Excel file, as Excel application is not installed on your computer.

Install the application and proceed. 

Excel application is missing in the User’s system.   Install the application or check the extension of the file.

Unable to export the Excel file, as the File Path does not exist, or the file is already open.  

Set the correct File Path or close the file and try again.

When the destination file is already opened in the User’s system, or the location given is inaccessible.  Check the location or whether the file is open in the system.

 Unable to import, as the selected mapping template is corrupt, invalid or not available. 

 Failed to Construct Map before import. 

Check the existing Map File or the mapping of Tally fields to the Excel columns.

Check the Event Log to know the reason for errors.

Unable to import, as one or more required fields are not set correctly in the mapping template.

Alter the mapping template as needed and try again.  

Missing structure in the map (maybe a missing field).  *What is missing will be displayed in the calculator panel.  Check the mapping.

Unable to save the mapping template, as the unique value selected for creating masters/vouchers is not valid.

Any one of these two “Unique On” is missing. 

  1. Unique On row
  2. Unique On column. 
Check the mapping.

Unable to save the mapping template, as there is no mapping of TallyPrime fields with the Excel data. 

When the entire mapping template is empty.  Enter the details and map the Tally fields to the Excel columns.

The value entered for the from/to column in the mapping template is invalid.

Enter a value from A to ZZ and try again.

 User has entered the end column number greater than max limit.

The value entered for the from/to column in the mapping template is invalid.

 User has entered the start column number greater than max limit.

In the selected mapping template, the value in the ‘to’ field should be greater than or equal to the value in the ‘from’ field.

 When start row/column is greater than end row/column.

Unable to save the mapping template, due to an internal error.

Try again later. If the problem persists, contact Tally Support.

Disc memory is missing to store the file into the system.  Restart TallyPrime or clear the space in your system.

 Unable to open the selected file. 

Unable to open given file.  Select a valid file and try again.

Unable to import as the selected Worksheet Name is missing. 

Select a valid Worksheet Name and try again. 

Invalid Excel Sheet Name.  Select a valid Worksheet Name and try again.

Unable to import, as the selected Excel file is missing, or the application is unable to read the data.

Ensure that the file exists on the selected folder path and has the read permission enabled.

Unable to set active sheet.  Ensure that the file exists on the selected folder path and has the read permission enabled.

Unable to save the mapping template, as one or more fields are not mapped correctly in the template.

Ensure that the mapping is correct and save again. 

User has provided wrong Tally field to Excel Column mapping.  Ensure that the mapping is correct and save again.
