Upgrading to the Latest Release in a Multi-User Environment

You can upgrade from an earlier release to the latest release in a multi-user environment. You can choose to upgrade Tally.ERP 9 in a new folder or an existing folder

There are three ways of upgrading to the latest release.

Method 1 - Installing Tally.ERP 9 in a new folder

In Server system:

1. Take a back up of your data.

2. Surrender the license of old release.

3. Uninstall Tally Gateway Server and the existing version of Tally.ERP 9.

To uninstall Tally Gateway Server,

o Open command prompt in admin mode.

o In command prompt, navigate to the folder where Tally Gateway Server is installed. Click here to identify the location where TGS is installed.

o Type tallygatewayserver.exe - u and press Enter to uninstall the Tally Gateway Server.

4. Download the latest release from Download Centre .

5. Install it in a new folder.

6. Reactivate the license, by default Tally Gateway Server will get installed.

7. Restore the data.

Note: After reactivating license in the latest release, Tally Gateway Server details are displayed in the Configuration tab of the Information Panel. You can use these details to configure the license in the client system.

In Client system:

1. Uninstall the existing version of Tally.ERP 9.

2. Install the latest release in a new folder.

3. Open Tally.ERP 9. Go to Licensing > Configure Existing License .

4. From Gateway Tally, F12 > Data Configuration. Specify server data path in Location of Data Files:

Ensure you have shared the Data folder in Server.

Method 2 - Installing Tally.ERP 9 in an existing folder

In Server system:

1. Take a back up of your data.

2. Download the latest release from Download Centre .

3. During installation, specify the existing Tally.ERP 9 folder path.

4. By default, Tally Gateway Server will get installed with existing (same) port number.

5. Start Tally.ERP 9, now it is ready to operate as Server.

The detail of Tally Gateway Server can be viewed from services.msc. Go to Run Command > type Services.msc and press Enter. Here search for Tally Gateway Server as shown below:

In Client system:

1. Install the latest release.

2. During installation, specify the existing Tally.ERP 9 folder path.

3. Start Tally.ERP 9, license will be served through Tally Gateway Server with existing port number.

Method 3 - Accessing existing (old) License in the latest release:

In Server system:

1. Take a back up of your data.

2. Download the latest release from Download Centre .

3. During installation, change the path to a new folder and install it.

4. It is highly recommended to upgrade Tally Gateway Server to the latest release to enjoy the latest enhancement in that release.

To install Tally Gateway Server,

o Open command prompt in admin mode.

o In command prompt, navigate to the folder where Tally.ERP 9 is installed.

o Type tallygatewayserver.exe - i and press Enter to install the Tally Gateway Server.

5. Start Tally.ERP 9. In the StartUp screen. Configure the License.

The detail of Tally Gateway Server can be viewed from Services.msc. Go to Run Command > type Services.msc and press Enter . Here search for Tally Gateway Server as shown below. (Here, you can see both Tally License and Tally Gateway Servers ):

In Client system:

1. Install the latest release of Tally.ERP 9 in a new folder.

2. During installation. Change the path to a new folder and install it.

3. Start Tally.ERP 9. In the StartUp screen > Select Configure Existing Licensing . Connect to an available Tally Gateway Server or enter the <Server Name/IP ><Port> here, specify the Server IP or Name with Port number as shown below:

Note: To find Tally Gateway Server Port , go to Server Tally and check in Configuration Panel :
