Tally.ERP 9 Installation

Tally.ERP 9 now introduces a 64-bit native application to support 64-bit Operating System of Windows.

Prior to Tally.ERP 9 Series A Release 4.5, Tally.ERP 9 - a 32-bit application was compatible on 64-bit Windows Operating systems, using the Operating System layer - WOW64, but with a few limitations.

To help users reap all the benefits of Tally.ERP 9 on 64-bit Windows Operating System, Tally.ERP 9 is developed as a 64-bit native application from Tally.ERP 9 Series A Release 4.5.

For this purpose, three different Tally.ERP 9 Setup files are available for installation of Tally.ERP 9. Depending upon the bitness of the Windows Operating system, the user can identify the applicable Setup file to be used for installation.

Installation of Tally.ERP 9 is a simple procedure. On successful installation of Tally.ERP 9, a shortcut is placed on the desktop, a folder titled Tally.ERP 9 is created in the selected drive and all the files required to run Tally.ERP 9 are stored in this default folder. You can specify a path of your choice, if required.

For easy understanding of New Installation of Tally.ERP 9, this section is explained on the basis of three different scenarios:

Difference between 32-bit and 64-bit version of Tally.ERP 9

The terms 32-bit and 64-bit refer to how much of your computer’s memory (RAM) can be used by applications. The 32-bit version of Tally.ERP 9 (like all 32-bit applications) can use up to Two Gigabytes (2GB) of RAM, which means that it may not be possible to use very large data or a very memory-hungry customized report.

In contrast, the 64-bit version of Tally can use a theoretical maximum of 16 Exabyte’s of RAM – much more RAM than computers actually have. This means you can work with data that is much larger and reports that are more memory intensive. Hence, the restriction imposed by 32-bit memory limit is eliminated; the only limiting factor could be the amount of RAM on your computer.
